Our Mission

Selene Quarterly Magazine launched in 2017 as a home for speculative romance, mystery, and alternate history. Each issue gathers short stories, poetry, and interviews that explore these genres from a range of voices. Issues are kept in an online archive, with each release made available roughly three months after publication.

Selene Quarterly Magazine was founded with a clear purpose: to create a dedicated space where romance, mystery, and alternate history could intertwine in speculative fiction. Recognising that these genres often receive less attention in the broader speculative fiction landscape, the magazine set out to showcase stories that blend heartfelt emotion with intrigue and imaginative historical twists. Each quarterly issue gathers a curated selection of short fiction, poetry, and author interviews that together form a cohesive reading experience. The editorial team believes that love, suspense, and reimagined pasts belong side by side, and the magazine's pages reflect that conviction with every release.

The editorial vision of Selene Quarterly is shaped by a commitment to narrative discovery and emotional depth. Romance in these pages is never merely decorative; it drives character decisions and shapes worlds. Mystery unfolds not only in whodunit plots but in questions of identity, memory, and hidden truths. Alternate history invites readers to consider paths not taken and worlds that might have been. These three genres are treated with equal seriousness, each given room to breathe and challenge readers in distinct ways. The result is a magazine that feels both timeless and refreshingly unconventional.

Diversity of voice and perspective is central to the magazine's identity. From its earliest issues, Selene Quarterly has actively sought submissions from writers of varied backgrounds, cultures, and experiences, recognising that romance, mystery, and alternate history gain richness when told from different vantage points. The editorial team reads widely and without bias, looking for stories that surprise and resonate on a human level. This dedication to inclusivity extends to the magazine's contributors, interview subjects, and the fictional worlds they build. Every issue aims to reflect the full spectrum of human imagination and lived experience.

Readers who subscribe to Selene Quarterly gain access to an evolving archive of speculative fiction that rewards both casual browsing and deep engagement. Issues are released on a regular quarterly schedule, with each new volume building on the themes and tones of those that came before. The magazine's online presence allows subscribers to revisit past issues and discover stories they may have missed. Beyond the fiction itself, each issue includes thoughtful interviews and commentary that place the work in broader literary and cultural context. For those who love stories that dare to ask what if, Selene Quarterly offers a steady source of discovery.

Editorial Leadership

Zelda Knight serves as Editor-in-Chief. She writes speculative romance and describes herself as a cryptozoologist in training, bringing that curiosity for the strange and uncharted to the magazine's editorial vision.

Supporting Our Contributors

All contributors receive payment for their work along with a free digital copy of their issue, delivered as an .epub or .mobi file for Kindle. This commitment to paying writers, poets, and artists underlies the magazine's publication standards.

Qualifying Market Status

In 2019, Selene Quarterly Magazine became a semi-pro qualifying market for the SFWA, and also gained qualifying market status with the HWA and MWA that same year. These milestones reflect the magazine's standards for speculative fiction publishing.
